Blue Electric is the one colour I tell people to see in person before judging from photos. Under gallery lighting the lizard scales on this Kelly 25 shift from deep cobalt to a brighter electric blue, and the fine grain catches light in a way smooth calfskin cannot. I carried mine to a friend’s exhibition opening and spent half the evening explaining that no, it is not painted.
Lizard from South Africa is the industry norm for this scale size, and small, even tiles are exactly why the hide suits a 25cm bag. At 25 x 17 x 7 cm the Kelly 25 is a true day bag: a compact wallet, phone, keys, sunglasses in a soft sleeve and a folded scarf all fit without the gussets straining. The rolled handle sits comfortably in the hand and the detachable strap lets me wear it crossbody when I need both hands.
Gold hardware against this blue is the pairing I keep returning to. It warms the colour without dragging it toward navy, and the sanglé turn-lock closes with a precise, mechanical click I never get tired of. Inside, a zip pocket and a slip pocket keep small items from migrating to the bottom.
One honest caveat: lizard has a dry nature and dislikes radiators, hot cars and long afternoons in direct sun. Scales can lift if the skin dries out, so I condition mine lightly twice a year and store it in its dust bag rather than on an open shelf. Looked after, the surface stays glossy for decades.
