Chai and Miel are the colours of the contents of a tea tin: pale milk tea and honey. On this Kelly Mini 2, the two tones play across Madame calfskin and alligator from Mississippi, and the effect lands somewhere between a camel coat and a soft caramel — warm, but never orange.
I think of this as the autumn bag. Madame is smooth and densely dyed, so Chai reads as a solid, soft brown with a low sheen, while the alligator panels — Miel, a golden honey — bring shine and pattern into the light. Gold hardware completes the temperature; silver would have left it cool, and this colour family does not want to be cool. The 19 x 12 x 5.5 cm frame holds phone, card holder, keys, a lipstick and a slim pouch for the earbuds I inevitably forget.
Madame does one thing differently from Epsom or Togo: it drapes. The leather is supple and gives at the flap edges, so the mini wears close to the body under an arm and looks softer with every season. The alligator, by contrast, stays rigid and lacquered — a nice internal tension you can feel every time you open the sanglé straps.
The honest caveat: smooth calf surfaces show oily fingerprints more than embossed ones, and pale honey alligator tiles attract dust at the edges. A soft cloth for the calf, a reptile-safe conditioner for the scales, twice yearly. Do that and the Chai will deepen to the colour of strong tea — which is exactly what I want from it.
