Lizard is the exotic most people overlook, because the pattern is so fine that from a metre away it reads as a print, and only in the hand does it resolve into thousands of tiny, glossy scales. In 5P Pink that fine texture does something a smooth hide could not: it gives the colour depth, so the bag turns from light to rose to deeper coral as you move it.
The hide is from South Africa, and the finish is naturally glassy — lizard polishes to a shine without lacquer, which is why pale colours look almost porcelain over it. Silver hardware keeps the temperature of the composition cool and clean, matching the finer scale of the detailing rather than fighting it.
Everything the mini has to carry — phone, cardholder, keys, one lipstick — fits its 19 by 12 cm face and 5.5 cm depth. I carry mine with white, with grey, with soft summer dresses, and it gives every one of them a lifted, finished edge.
Now the honest part, because lizard asks for it. It is the most delicate exotic I own — dry air will lift the scales and can crack the finish, so it lives in its dust bag, gets conditioned lightly twice a year, and never sits on a radiator or in a parked car. Treat it as jewellery that closes.
Given that care, nothing at this size looks more finely made.
