The test I run on a dark bag is three weeks of use with no visible scars, and this Ebene PM passed without drama. It is a brown that mostly masquerades as black – handsome for it. I bought it expecting a black bag’s discretion and got something warmer without surrendering the practicality. Worth saying plainly, though: you see the brown only in direct sun.
Just 28 centimetres from base to top, and no more than eight deep, it is the kind of pack that rides high on the back and stays out of the way on a bicycle. I fit an agenda, a small pouch of cables, earbuds, keys and a flat water bottle; the leather gives a little at the sides as it fills.
Togo from France is soft from the first day, with a grain that scatters marks rather than collecting them. The silver hardware sits low-key against the dark hide, and the straps settle quickly – no break-in period worth mentioning, and no squeaking in quiet rooms, which I have learned to check. The surface also refuses to look tired: after months, the most I can report is a soft shine where the straps meet the body.
What I would flag: if you specifically want a brown bag, this one conceals that fact indoors, and its darkness can swallow detail – the grain is far more interesting in the hand than in a mirror. For everything else, from planes to bars to unpredictable weather, I find it close to faultless.
