Beton is the colour of good concrete before it cures — a soft grey with a green-ish breath in it, and quite possibly the most wearable shade ever put on alligator. Matte scales keep it from looking industrial, and gold hardware keeps it from looking cold. Between Craie’s white and Noir’s black, this is the version you can carry with almost anything, including the colours that scold both of the others.
One thing to accept about Beton: it is a colour that moves. In flat daylight the grey reads cool and stony; under warm interior light a faint khaki comes out of it; against olive or taupe it looks almost warm itself. None of that is a fault — it is the sign of a nuanced colour — but if you want a bag that looks identical in every room, this is not that bag.
Across its 20 cm width and 16 cm height, the mini holds a phone, a cardholder, keys and a compact, with nothing left rolling loose — the way I always pack mine. The flap closes with a satisfying weight, because matte alligator holds a fold the way paper holds a crease, and the turn-lock turns with gentle resistance. The clochette and padlock hang short enough to stay tidy on the wrist.
The practical note: that firm fold means opening and closing is a deliberate, two-second motion rather than a one-handed flick — on a compact bag that is a fair trade for a flap that always lies flat, but know it going in. And as with any matte skin, the touchpoints will soften with years of use; a light conditioning once a season and a life out of direct sun keep Beton composed.
