Yellow is rare in leather for a reason: it has to be mixed well or it turns acid. This jaune is mixed well, a warm sunflower tone with enough depth to feel grown up, and on the 36 it behaves like sunshine with a briefcase habit. In a gray city, it changes the mood of a morning in five seconds.
Vache Country’s firm grain keeps the yellow from looking thin and gives the big bag structure, so it stands on its own base instead of collapsing on the bench. The silver snap and the clean edges are the only details, because the color needs none. Bright leathers mark more visibly than dark ones; that is simply the arithmetic of it.
Inside on a museum-and-lunch Saturday: a sketchbook, a pencil roll, a wallet, phone, keys, sunglasses and a light jacket rolled on top. The 36’s gusset means the jacket sits beside the sketchbook rather than under it, and nothing has to be crushed to get it in, one of the small pleasures of an open top.
Honest notes: a yellow bag this size asks for a confident wardrobe or a very neutral one, and it will not be the quiet option in either case. Scuffs read as pale gray lines on yellow and want dealing with promptly. Carried deliberately, though, it is the most cheering object in my closet, and I have never once had a bad morning carrying it.
