Black bags earn their place slowly, because they have to prove they add something beyond being safe. This Evelyne does, since Clemence gives black a texture that smooth leathers never show. In flat daylight the grain reads almost charcoal; under warm restaurant light it catches a quiet sheen.
At twenty-nine centimetres across it is the size I take when the day has no fixed shape: morning errands, lunch with a friend, drinks that run late. Nothing about the bag announces daywear, so it moves through those hours without changing character. The perforated H faces outward and fades into the black rather than calling attention to itself.
Inside, I keep it simple: glasses case, phone, a zip pouch for cards and cash, keys and a lipstick. That is the comfortable load, and the flat back pocket holds the phone when my hands are full. The adjustable canvas strap crosses over a jacket without slipping, which matters to me more than any pocket count. On evenings out I simply shorten it and carry the bag on one shoulder.
Long term, black Clemence hides scratches and colour transfer better than any pale shade, but it does develop a slight polish at the corners and where the strap rubs. I treat that as character. If you need your black to stay factory-perfect, this is not the leather for it; if you want it to age into something personal, it is exactly right.
