Blue Hydra is the color of shallow water over white sand, and mine has been to three coastlines. On holiday it does what no neutral can: it looks right over a swimsuit cover-up at noon and equally right at dinner with a tan and a white shirt, and it never once needed to be protected from the sea air, and it travels in the bottom of a carry-on without a worry.
Clemence behaves well in humidity; the pebbled leather stays matte, and the color holds its brightness instead of dulling. The bag is small, eighteen by sixteen centimeters overall, with room for a phone, a card wallet, sunscreen in a small tube and a hotel key. Anything more belongs in a beach bag.
The one maintenance point is the strap. Canvas webbing takes on sunscreen and salt over a long beach week, and mine gets a gentle hand-wash every September, which it has survived without fading. If that sounds like fuss, remember that almost everything else about this bag is carefree, and a carefree bag is the only kind worth packing.
Back home, turquoise is harder to place than you might expect; against dark winter coats it can feel like a souvenir rather than a choice. Mine hibernates from November and reappears in May, and the reunion is always a pleasure. Some bags are for a season, and they are no less useful for it. A holiday bag should be a small joy, and this one has been.
