Blue Atoll is the sky on a clear morning: a pale, chalky aqua with almost no saturation to it. It is the blue for people who think they do not wear blue, and it does its best work in summer against white, stone and bare skin.
The construction follows the small Evelyne layout, eighteen across, sixteen high and five deep, and it takes the day’s essentials without stiffening: a phone, a card wallet, keys, a balm, and a folded scarf if the evening turns cool. The Clemence body slouches softly and keeps the pale tone from looking precious.
My warning concerns matching. Pale aqua and light denim blur into one another, so if you are wearing soft blue jeans, reach for a different bag or a different trouser. White, grey and cream flatter this color far more, and so does anything undyed, unbleached, natural.
Silver hardware disappears against the pale leather, leaving the bag almost elementally simple. I have carried mine through two summers of weddings, garden lunches and ferry rides, most of them by water, and it has never looked wrong, only lighter than whatever it is worn with.
The honest note is about getting it dirty: pale aqua shows summer’s evidence, sunscreen on the corners, a drop of oil from a shared plate. Mine carries a wipe-down cloth as a matter of habit, and the color has repaid the attention by staying exactly as clean as it started.
