Dark brown with gold hardware is a pairing as old as good furniture, and it does something to the Lindy 26 that the silver version cannot: it makes the bag glow. In low evening light, Ebene’s chocolate surface and the warm fittings stop looking like autumn colors and start looking like a fire dying in a grate. I bought it for exactly that hour of the day.
The leather is Taurillon Clemence — pebbled, matte, thick enough to feel substantial without weight — and the bag keeps the standard 26 by 18 by 12 centimetre frame. Soft-shouldered, twin-handled, with the strap that lets it ride cross-body or sit on the forearm, it is the least demanding bag I own in terms of outfit math.
Daily contents: a leather wallet, phone, keys, a book, sunglasses in a case, and a slim thermos in winter. This one carries the thermos because dark leather forgives life more than pale leather does; that is not a small thing when you are choosing a bag for a commute.
What to expect over time: warm dark browns like this deepen where hands and sunlight touch them, so the handles darken years before the body does. I find that gorgeous; a friend who borrowed it for a month found it untidy. Know which person you are. The other note is that Ebene hides almost everything — ink, rain, life — which is either peace of mind or a little boring, depending on the day.
