Soft leather changes the personality of a black sandal completely. Where an embossed calfskin reads tailored, this Santorini in Swift is pliable — the vamp curves with the foot, the strap feels closer to a ribbon, and the shoe packs flat in a suitcase without creasing badly. I have folded these into a carry-on at the last minute more than once, and the crease across the vamp stays faint afterwards.
Swift is smooth with a faint sheen when new and a grain so fine it looks almost untextured. Sole and edge are black leather; a hazelnut goatskin lining hides a warm contrast inside; the buckle is palladium-plated. Heel 0.4 inch, front rise 0.2 inch, EU 36 to 41, Italian-made. The strap has several settings, so the fit works even after a flight leaves your ankles puffy.
These are my usual airport pair — through security, onto the plane, out to dinner the same evening. Black on soft leather needs less breaking in than a stiffer sandal, and the adjustable ankle strap tightens what a slip-on cannot. At dinner nobody can tell they spent the afternoon in a bag, which is the point of a soft black sandal.
The caveat: Swift shows life quickly. A fingernail leaves a faint line, water leaves a spot, and neither disappears on its own the way it might on embossed leather. Condition them once a season and they stay presentable; neglect them and they will look older than they are.
