Gris Meyer is a pale, softly warm grey that behaves almost like stone. On this Royal strap it covers one face in Epsom calfskin, with plain noir on the reverse and a palladium buckle in between. The effect is deliberate: a belt that lightens a dark outfit at the waist without introducing a second colour to the look.
The strap is 38 mm across, which fills the loops of jeans and chinos properly and draws a clean horizontal line at the waist. Epsom’s heat-embossed grain is tight, matte and firm; it resists scuffing, stays smooth at the buckle hole and keeps the strap flat instead of rolling at the tip. Palladium, cool and slightly grey in tone, keeps the metal quiet against both faces.
I wear the grey side with black, charcoal and navy when I want the belt to register as part of the outfit, and the black side on mornings when I want it to disappear. Rotating the buckle flips the strap; its edge always shows a thread of the other colour, which on pale grey and black reads as neat piping rather than a flaw.
Two notes in the interest of honesty: this width and this firmness suit casual trousers far better than slim suit cloth, and Epsom takes about a week of wear to soften at the fold before it lies flat. Once settled, it keeps that line for years.
It comes in waist sizes between 80 and 115 cm, measured where the belt sits.
