Ruby is the red for the person whose coat closet is already full of neutrals. B5 Ruby is bright and clean, with a touch of blue in it that keeps the color from sliding toward orange, and on soft Clemence it looks like polished stone.
The medium Picotin does not look like a workhorse, but it behaves like one on short trips. Unlined and soft-sided, it takes sunglasses in a case, a paperback, a compact wallet, a phone, keys and a small camera, then slouches down comfortably against the body as the day goes on. The red shows every fold of the leather clearly, which I count as a feature; it is a bag that looks alive, and it makes even an ordinary Tuesday feel planned.
Silver hardware is the right temperature for this shade: the cool fittings sharpen the red instead of softening it, and the lock sits on its tab without turning the front of the bag into a display. Two short handles, cut from the same dyed hide, keep everything consistent. Sweep your hair back, wear white, and the bag does the rest.
One honest warning: bright red is loud, and there is no way around that. It will argue with prints, fight with purple, and draw the eye before you do. Worn against black, denim, grey or white, though, it does all the work of a statement piece with none of the fuss of jewelry.
