Pastel blue is a color you either schedule or you don’t. I schedule it: 08 Blue Pale comes out when the weather turns, and it earns its keep against white denim, oatmeal and pale grey. In a room full of black bags, it is the one people ask about.
The leather is Taurillon Clemence, thick, pebbled and soft, and it gives the pale blue a matte finish that keeps it from looking sugary. The body is unlined, so it folds a little when set down; a touch over eight and a half inches across, it holds a phone, a pair of sunglasses, a cardholder, keys and a lipstick with room to reach in comfortably. I like that the light blue shows the pebble grain as small shadows, giving the bag a texture you feel as much as see.
Silver fittings are the right call here: cool metal against cool blue keeps the whole bag clean, and the lock sits neatly on its tab without breaking the line of the top edge. The handles are short, so this is a hand or forearm bag, and the light body means it never pulls at the wrist.
One thing I have learned the hard way: pale leather and unexpected rain are not friends. Water spots can show on Blue Pale, so I keep a soft cloth in the car and choose this bag on mornings that look promising. On the right days it is the freshest thing I own, and it makes even an old grey dress look like it was planned around the bag.
