Vert Mangrove is the color of leaves on the shaded side of a tree: a deep, still green with none of the acid brightness of spring. In the small Picotin it turns the whole bag into something closer to a lacquered object than a pouch.
The 18 carries what an evening requires and stops there: phone, keys, a cardholder, a lipstick. Because the leather is unlined Clemence, the inside is as soft as the outside, and the bag gathers gently in the hand instead of standing square. The weight is negligible even when it is full, and the deep dye means the interior hides any trace of daily survival. It is also the softest bag in the wardrobe, which is saying something in this company.
Gold hardware is the proper companion for a green this dark; the fittings glow against it the way brass does against painted wood, and the lock on its tab is the brightest point of the whole design. The handles are short, plain and firm, and they hold their arch on the table.
An honest note about dark green: in flat evening light it slides toward black, so do not count on it for color after sunset; by daylight it is properly, unhurriedly green. Gold hardware is exactly what keeps the bag from reading as black altogether, which in winter is the only season this color really needs. In daylight the green and gold are a pairing you do not see often and remember for a long while.
