Why own a reversible belt in a single colour? Because the two faces are different leathers, not two dyes of the same one. One side is smooth Swift calfskin, the other heat-embossed Epsom, so even in all-black the strap offers a choice between a soft sheen against wool and a matte, harder-wearing surface for denim.
I also treat it as quiet insurance. Black Epsom takes daily abuse well, and if one face ever dulls where the buckle rests or picks up a mark at the holes, I flip the strap and the belt looks fresh again without a visit to a leather specialist. Flipping is simply a matter of turning the buckle over.
The hardware is a compact Mini Constance buckle in yellow gold plated metal, and the strap runs 24 mm, just under an inch, the width I find easiest for tailored trousers and mid-rise jeans alike. Heavy jacket loops and wide leather work belts are the one place this one will feel slender by comparison.
There is also the depth of the black itself: Swift’s smooth finish reads slightly deeper and more reflective than Epsom’s matte surface, so the two faces photograph and wear differently even though the colour name is identical. Chalk it up to grain rather than pigment.
Sizing is by waist in centimetres from 70 to 115. If you sit between two sizes, take the larger for a belt worn over a shirt. It is made in France.
