Rouge Casaque is the red of a lacquered door in an old town – bright, saturated, and completely unembarrassed. Carrying it requires a small amount of nerve and rewards you with a bag that makes every neutral outfit look intentional, which is a trade I make happily.
The Lindy 30 gives the colour somewhere to live: thick Clemence grain, matte finish, and a soft body that folds at the top. Gold hardware and a bright red are a classic, warm combination. Two rolled handles, one shoulder strap, side pockets with clasps – the standard architecture.
Capacity: thirty by nineteen by sixteen centimetres, which covers a tablet, a make-up bag, a folded scarf, a slim bottle, keys and phone. The outside pockets keep the small things accessible; the inside is one open space, so I pack in pouches.
The honest note with bright red: edges and corners show every scuff and every bit of dark dye transfer, and there is nowhere for imperfection to hide. I keep a leather wipe in my desk drawer and give the corners attention monthly – twenty seconds of care keeps it bright.
Worn with navy, white, grey or camel, it is the most useful loud thing I own. It also earns its keep beyond errands – a rolled scarf, a paperback and a slim bottle go in without ceremony, and the exterior pockets stay easy to reach even when the bag is full.
