Mauve gets filed under pink by people who have never seen a good one. This is not sweet. It is a dusty purple-rose, closer to the inside of a plum than to bubblegum, and gold hardware gives it enough gravity to wear after dark.
Kelly Pochette, 22 by 12 by 7 cm, Swift calfskin. The proportions make it a wallet with a handle, really, everything essential and nothing speculative. A cardholder, phone, keys and lip balm fill it exactly, and there is no room left for the extra pair of glasses you keep promising to carry. That constraint is why I use it: what goes in has to matter.
With Swift’s fine grain, the mauve reads soft and slightly powdered rather than flat, and the flap folds without cracking at the hinge, which is a genuine concern with stiffer leathers over years of opening. Keep it away from denim on humid days and it will not blush blue at the edges. Mine has one faint line near the handle where a ring touched it, and it faded into the shade instead of advertising itself.
Dressing it is easy: cream, grey, navy and white all flatter it, and a red lip makes it look intentional. It is the colour I would buy for someone who has every neutral already and is quietly bored of them. It also refuses to look dated, which is more than most seasonal shades manage.
