Jaune de Naples is a pale, buttery yellow, closer to the inside of a lemon than to the skin, and lizard gives it a crystalline quality because every tiny scale catches light at a different angle. With silver hardware, it is the softest possible way to wear yellow.
The bag is the standard 22 cm frame with a 12 cm height and a 7 cm gusset, sized for a phone, a cardholder, keys and a lipstick. The flap and turn-lock close over the top, and the single handle keeps it on the wrist. For a summer wedding or a christening it has been the right answer every time.
What I would want to know before buying pale lizard: those fine scales show any abrasion, and pale color magnifies it. Lizard is also a dry skin, so sun exposure is its enemy and a dab of conditioner once a year keeps the scales from curling. In exchange you get a leather that keeps its shape and its color better than almost anything.
Keep it out of direct sun and off rough surfaces, and it stays luminous.
Pale yellow is easier to wear than its reputation suggests: it supports white, sand, navy and pale grey without competing, and in bright light it looks paler than it is. I wear mine with summer linen and, more often than you might expect, with a dark coat in town, where it has never looked out of place for a moment.
