Every warm season, one colour on the shelf does all the talking, and in my experience it is yellow — specifically I8 Jaune Milton, a clean sunflower tone that is bright without tipping into highlighter territory. On Epsom’s embossed calfskin the colour reads sunlit and structured, with that faintly papery texture the grain gives.
This is the Kelly Mini 2, 19 x 12 x 5.5 cm, and in this colour it behaves like jewellery. Silver hardware keeps the whole proposition cooler and less sweet than gold would — think lemonade rather than custard. I carry it to brunches and gallery afternoons with the strap over one shoulder, and crossbody when the day turns into a walk.
What actually goes inside: phone, a small card case, keys, lip balm and folded sunglasses resting in their cloth. That is the honest capacity of a mini — I will not pretend a full wallet fits, because it doesn’t. The interior zip pocket holds coins and a spare house key without rattling.
The trade-off with a colour this decisive is that it leads the outfit rather than following it. I keep the clothing quiet — navy, white, grey, linen — and let the bag be the single loud statement. Epsom’s scratch-resistant surface means daily use doesn’t punish the yellow, though I do go over the edges with a colour-neutral balm to stop any dryness showing as pale lines. Worn with intent, it is the most cheerful object I own.
