Chalk white is not white — Craie is soft and slightly grey-tinged, mercifully forgiving for how light it looks. On Swift calfskin it has a smooth, quiet sheen, and against silver hardware the whole bag is a study in cool neutrals. Just past eight and a half inches in width, it hangs light and disappears against cream and white clothing, which is either the point or the problem, depending on your outfit.
What lives inside: phone, cardholder, keys, lip balm, occasionally a passport when I am travelling and feeling organised. The flap opens wide on its hinge — enough to see everything at a glance, which I value on a light-coloured bag because nothing gets lost in a dark lining. The lining here is the same pale family, which sounds like a small detail and is actually the whole pleasure of the thing.
Two honest warnings. Raw denim and new dark wool can transfer colour to Craie leather, Swift included, and once it is in, it is in. And a white bag demands a certain lowered shoulder in crowded places. I kept mine clean for a year with discipline and one damp cloth; it is not fragile, but it is not casual either.
Worn head to toe in cream, it looks like a summer editorial. Worn with black, the Danse reads deliberate. Frankly, it earns the small extra attention it asks for.
