Blue Jean is a color with a decade attached, the denim-friendly blue that made the 2000s what they were, and it has aged into something better than nostalgia: an easy accent that behaves with almost any casual wardrobe. On this Epsom 25, the mid-tone blue stays soft rather than sharp, which surprises no one more than me.
Epsom keeps the silhouette clean and slightly formal, which is the honest tension in this bag: the color says weekend, the construction says no. I resolve it with pieces that do the same sort of thing, a tailored blazer over a white tee, chinos and loafers, and it always clicks.
The 25 x 17 x 7 cm interior carries my flat-set essentials with the usual rigor: phone, cardholder, keys, a tinted lip balm, and a folding pair of glasses tucked in the pocket. Nothing else fits without a vote, and nothing else is invited.
Silver hardware gives the blue a slightly aquatic, cool presence; in overcast light the bag reads almost grey-blue, which I find more sophisticated than sunny-day blue.
Two things to know honestly. First, as the denim joke writes itself, this bag and blue jeans in the same undervalued tone can look like an accident; give it white, cream or camel as a backdrop. Second, Epsom’s structure means the bag will not mold to you, so let the color carry the relationship.
