Cement grey sounds industrial until you see it under a high-gloss finish. Gris Ciment in bright-faced American alligator is a flat, cool mid-grey polished until the tiles shine like wet slate, a bag with the calm of concrete and the surface of a piano. Worn with a white shirt at Sunday brunch, it is close to perfect.
American alligator grows broad, square, tessellated scales, and the high-gloss treatment turns each one into a small facet. The Kelly 25 frame, 25 by 17 by 7 cm, keeps the proposition disciplined: phone, card holder, keys, sunglasses without the case, and a lipstick. The flap stands straight, the corners are sharp, and the bag sits handsomely on a table while you eat.
Gold hardware warms the cool grey, which is why I would not swap it for silver here; silver on cement gloss can look almost surgical, while gold gives the surface a heartbeat. The lock is the smoothest action in my collection, a detail you only notice after you have opened a few hundred of them.
Honest note: gloss of this kind shows handling. Fingerprints near the lock, a fine haze where my hand rests, all of it wipes off with a soft cloth, but it needs the thirty seconds now rather than the next morning. It also wants a dry forecast and a temperate wardrobe. Within those limits, it is the most quietly composed bag in this batch, and yes, I am aware I called a glossy alligator bag quiet.
