Rouge H is the deepest burgundy red in this format and probably the oldest-feeling, a color with the quiet confidence of a library chair. In Box calf’s mellow gloss, the Kelly 25 looks like a bag that has already been somewhere interesting, even on day one.
The leather and the color agree here. Box’s surface slowly warms from within, and Rouge H, with its plum-brown base, evolves the most gracefully of any of the reds. Sit with the bag for a year and it will look different; keep it for five and the difference becomes a feature.
With camels it is almost French; with charcoal it is sober; with cream it is a held breath. Silver would have made the red colder and more modern; the gold here matches the atmosphere of the color itself, and so I consider it correct.
The interior runs on discipline over the 25 x 17 x 7 cm frame: phone, cardholder, keys, lipstick, and a slim diary if I am feeling grand. Worn against tweed in October, it gathers the whole outfit into one warm register. The bag stays flat on a desk, which is where it spends its best hours.
The caution I owe you: Rouge H reads nearly brown in dim light, and Box behaves worse than most in rain. Wine-colored and water-averse. Carry it the way you would carry a good coat, and it returns the effort in patina few leathers can offer.
