Etoupe again, but in Clemence it behaves differently than it does in Evercolor: bigger grain, softer hand, more slouch. The house taupe is one of the few neutrals that flatters every other colour I wear, and in this thick taurillon it looks lived-in from the first week rather than pristine. This is the version I recommend to someone who wants a bag to look seasoned on arrival.
The 28 cm size opens wide, so my phone, wallet, keys and a rolled scarf all go in without a shuffle, and the strap adjusts for crossbody over a winter coat. The flap closure takes a second pass to seat on its strap, but the payoff is a messenger that never gapes open on a crowded train.
Silver hardware keeps the taupe from drifting toward brown, and the palladium-tone rings on the strap are the sort of detail you notice only when you look for it. The edges are softly finished, without stark piping that scuffs lighter against the leather, which is a small thing that ages gracefully. The wide strap sits flat on the shoulder and soaks up the weight of a day’s contents.
My honest warning concerns structure: Clemence slouches, and that is the entire point of it. If your ideal bag stands up on a table by itself, the Evercolor version of this messenger will make you happier. If you want softness that wraps around your hip, this is the one. Its charm is cumulative; it grows on you at about the same pace the leather softens.
