On a summer wrist, pale leather beats metal every time, and Etoupe does something better than pale: it stays interesting. This Etrier bracelet is built from a three-millimetre band of braided Swift calfskin, threaded through a stirrup-shaped fitting plated in rose gold. The fit covers wrists between 5.7 and 6.1 inches, and the whole thing is made in Italy.
What I notice first is how the closure changes the drape. Because the cord threads through the fitting and pins back on itself, the bracelet sits soft against the arm with a slight loop rather than a rigid ring, so it moves with you instead of holding a shape. That makes it the most comfortable leather bracelet I own for a full day of wear.
I style Etoupe by keeping everything else warm. Cream linen, camel cotton, oatmeal knit, a gold ring on the other hand, and this bracelet in the middle of it. It also works with an all-white outfit in a way that a black or navy leather simply cannot, because there is no hard edge to the contrast. In winter it disappears pleasantly under a cashmere sleeve.
Two things worth knowing. Etoupe Swift shows water marks more than black does, so a rainy commute is best avoided, and the leather’s colour will deepen where the cord passes through the metal, which is the first place to show wear. Neither is a problem, but neither is reversible either. Made in Italy.
