There is a particular kind of beige that survives every season change, and after carrying Trench for a month I am convinced this is it. The Constance 24 in S2 Trench sits between sand and warm grey, so it reads casual with denim and smart with tailoring. In Epsom, the shade stays perfectly even – no darkening at the corners, no shifting tone under sunlight.
Epsom is pressed calfskin, and the embossed grain is what makes it rigid. That rigidity is the whole point: the bag stands on its own, the flap closes with a firm snap, and the silhouette never sags, even half empty. Paired with gold-tone hardware it looks deliberately dressed without trying – the H clasp is the only statement it needs.
At 24 by 15 by 5 cm it lands in a useful middle ground: room for a phone, a compact wallet, keys, sunglasses once you skip the case, and a small agenda for meetings. The strap is fixed, so it falls at the hip on me (I am 168 cm) and can be tucked under the arm if you prefer. A flat pocket inside keeps cards from sliding around.
The trade-off is character, oddly enough. Epsom does not develop the deep patina of a natural calfskin, so if you love leather that ages visibly, this is not that bag; what you get instead is a bag that looks the same on year three as on day one. A wipe with a soft cloth is all it asks, and keep it away from ballpoint pens, which mark the pressed grain stubbornly.
I reach for this one when I want to stop thinking about my bag and just carry it. That is rarer than it sounds.
