Ebene sits at the darkest end of brown, so dark that in a dim room it passes for black and only shows its true colour when daylight reaches it. With gold hardware the warmth becomes obvious, and the bag turns into the most traditional-looking piece in this family: dark wood, brass fittings, old libraries. I like it most with charcoal and cream.
Because the colour is so deep, Togo’s pebble grain is what keeps it from reading flat. The surface picks up a low sheen in the light, a ripple rather than a shine, and the leather’s soft drape lets the 35 mould slightly against your side when carried. In rain, dark brown is far more forgiving than pale tones, which makes this a genuinely practical choice for a city with moody weather.
Capacity at this size covers most days without negotiation: a wallet, phone, keys, glasses, a compact, a lipstick, a slim notebook and a folded scarf, or a light laptop if you travel light otherwise. The interior zip pocket and slip pockets mean the small things have a logical home rather than a pile at the bottom.
One honest consideration: dark browns can photograph as muddy under indoor light, and because the shade sits so close to black, some people find it less distinct than either colour would be alone. If you love black but want a warmer undertone, this is the compromise I would recommend.
