A dark green bag is easy to get wrong, and this one is not. Vert Cypres sits somewhere between pine and forest floor, and pairing Togo calfskin with matte alligator takes it out of the office and into evening without any effort.
The alligator here is matte rather than glossy, imported from France and originally sourced from Mississippi, and the finish is the whole point. A shiny scale catches every overhead light and looks brittle; matte absorbs light and the scales read as texture, not decoration. The gold hardware warms the green rather than fighting it. One more detail I appreciate: the alligator covers the areas you look at, the Togo covers the areas that take knocks.
Capacity-wise it behaves like every 25 cm Birkin I own: phone, cardholder, compact, keys, and a slim sunglasses case wedged upright. I would not ask it to take a laptop or a water bottle.
Now the trade-off. Matte alligator is a thirsty leather and will not shrug off a rain shower the way Togo will. A few drops are fine; a soaked commute is not. I keep a light neutral cream on hand and keep the bag away from the window in summer, because UV will darken the scales unevenly. Stored in a breathable dust bag rather than a plastic bin, the scales have kept their matte finish without drying.
The Togo panels give it the durability to be used daily, so the exotic part stays an accent rather than a liability. If that balance is what you want, this is a well-judged combination.
