Vert Jade is green with a stone-like calm to it – slightly greyed, deeper than emerald, the colour of old bottle glass. On Epsom the pressed grain keeps it uniform and matte, silver hardware reads cool against it without competing, and the matte alligator detailing gives the surface a second texture to find with your fingers when the wallet is in your hand.
The 17.5/9 cm shape is the familiar full-size Bearn, with a gusset deep enough that the coin section works properly and the note compartment takes unfolded bills. I used this as my only wallet through a winter of airports: a boarding pass in one slot, a hotel key card in the other, cash and coins together inside, and nothing ever slid out of place in the bottom of a carry-on.
Honest trade-offs. Greens this saturated show fingerprints on the outer flap, and the matte alligator panels prefer the humidity of normal life – if you live somewhere brutally dry, handle it now and then rather than leaving it shut in a drawer for months. Epsom itself shrugs off rain, which is more than most leathers can claim.
After months of daily handling it has kept its composure: no sagging, no shine at the corners, the colour as even as the day it arrived.
It is a green for people who want colour without noise. I wear it far more than I expected to.
