Brown and black used to be a rule you did not break. I am glad that rule died, because this Constance makes the pairing look intentional: a Noir face over an Ébène reverse, held by a permabrass buckle whose yellow-gold tone is softer than mirror-plated hardware — almost like an old brass doorknob polished by years of hands.
Permabrass is my favourite of the house finishes for exactly that reason. It glows without blinding, photographs beautifully, and flatters warmer complexions where chrome-bright metal can look cold. Combined with a thirty-eight millimetre strap in Box 135 and Togo calfskin, the whole belt reads classic in the best sense: built for flannel trousers, tweed jackets and the kind of leather shoes that improve with age.
Ébène, the rich near-black brown, is the reverse face and my favourite of the two on casual days. It drinks light differently from the noir top side and pairs with chocolate suede in a way black never will. Sizes 80 to 115 are in centimetres; measure at your waist or wherever the belt will actually rest, and take the middle-hole approach if you are between sizes.
Honest notes: polished permabrass shows fingerprints more readily than brushed or blacked finishes — a quick wipe with the cloth from the box solves it. And the smooth Box face is the one that will show its history first: a chair back, a desk edge, a car door. Consider those small marks the price of leather that takes and holds a shine like nothing else in the wardrobe.
