I pack for four days away with a carry-on and this bag, and the colour does most of the work. Etoupe is the taupe that sits between grey and brown so evenly that it has no temperature at all, which makes it the only bag I own that never once argued with an outfit. It is, quietly, the most borrowed bag in my house.
The In the Loop 18: eighteen by nineteen and a half centimetres, twelve at the base, a soft bucket with a loop handle and pebbled Taurillon Clemence that folds like a jumper. Gold hardware on this tone is the traditional reading, warm fittings on a warm neutral, and it looks settled rather than new from the first week.
What travels in it: a passport sleeve, a phone, keys, a mini pouch for cards and a pack of tissues. On the plane it fits the seat-back pocket, which I consider a genuine design achievement, and at the destination it becomes the evening bag once the day bag is emptied. It has been to three countries and never once looked out of place.
The single caveat is contrast. Etoupe and gold are so closely related that neither stands out; if you want your hardware visible from across a room, take the silver twin instead. If you want the bag that blends into a wardrobe and lets you do the talking, this is the one. It will never be the bag you remember in photos; it will be the one you reach for without thinking, which matters more.
