Some bags whisper; Rouge Casque arrives first and explains later. It is a fire-engine red, the kind that fills a doorway, and on the In the Loop 18 it turns a plain grey outfit into a sentence with an exclamation mark. I do not wear it to settle arguments, only to enjoy the day.
The bucket beneath it stays modest: eighteen centimetres wide, just under twenty with the loop, twelve deep, pebbled Taurillon Clemence with a matte hand. Silver hardware is the only metal this red tolerates in my view; gold would make it festive, and this colour is already a party. In shade the red turns velvety; in sun it is almost fluorescent.
A Saturday with it: phone, a fruit-stall wallet with coins, keys, sunglasses and a lipstick. At lunch it sits on the table, radiating, and on the walk home in late light it turns deeper, almost Venetian, a colour change worth owning the bag for. The loop handle makes it an easy bag to hold while paying for things.
An honest word: bright red is a jealous colour. It refuses to sit quietly near coral, hot pink or rust, and it demands at least one dark neutral in the outfit to lean on. Keep it to grey, navy, black or white and it is the easiest strong colour in the wardrobe. That is a lighter leash than most bold bags ask for.
