Gold or silver — that is the question I get most about Etoupe, and this 25 cm answer is silver. Where gold hardware warms Etoupe into cashmere territory, pale metal pulls it cooler and more modern. On a grey-beige leather the difference is not subtle.
The body is Epsom, that pressed and lightly embossed calfskin that keeps its composure in bad weather. Fine rain beads on the surface; a quick wipe with a dry cloth and it is gone. Firmness is part of the deal, and this dome genuinely holds its curve even when I stack a scarf on top of everything else.
What actually travels with me: phone in the slip pocket, a mid-size wallet, keys on a small clip, lip balm and a folding umbrella tucked handle-down when the forecast insists. The 25 x 20 x 10 cm shell swallows all of it without bulging at the zip.
Where it fits in a collection: if you already own a black work tote, this is the second bag — the one that handles lunches, gallery afternoons and short flights without looking overdressed or underdressed at either end. Etoupe earns its place by never being the loudest thing in the room.
One caveat worth stating — Epsom is stiff enough that the bag feels formal at first. Give it a few weeks and the zip track and handle soften into a rhythm. Etoupe’s real virtue is forgiveness: it hides the daily smudges that a chalk-white sister would broadcast to the room.
