Chalk white is a commitment, and I say that as someone who packs a Craie bag anyway. In daylight it is not stark — closer to plaster or raw silk — and against summer linen or winter navy it lifts an outfit without stealing the scene.
Epsom is the right leather for this shade. Its pressed grain resists the grime that would ruin a smoother skin, and spills wipe away instead of soaking in. The trade-off is stiffness: this dome stands at attention, and the curved zip wants two hands until the track wears in.
Space is generous for the class — wallet, phone, sunglasses case, a paperback and a slim bottle inside the 25 by 20 by 10 cm shell, with the slip pocket holding receipts flat. Gold hardware adds the only warmth on the bag and stops the white from reading cold.
Styling notes from my own closet: Craie loves tan, oatmeal and washed denim, and it makes a beige trench look sharper than it has any right to. In winter it lifts charcoal and black rather than clashing with them — which is the whole argument for owning a white bag, even one that asks for care.
Now the honest part. Craie shows denim transfer, ink and even newsprint, slowly but surely. I keep a cleaning wipe in the car and go over the back panel after a day in dark-wash jeans. Treated that way the leather stays creamy rather than grey — but anyone wanting a carefree white bag should look at Etoupe first.
