I resisted lettered buckles for years on the theory that hardware should be silent. What changed my mind was seeing this one in all black: with the script embossed across a dark plate, the lettering becomes texture rather than branding, closer to a hallmark than a logo, and it catches the light only at an angle.
The strap is 38 mm and reversible, glossy Box 135 calfskin on one face and pebbled Togo on the other, both in noir. Since the colour never changes, what you flip between is finish: a smooth, light-catching surface for tailored trousers and evenings, and a matte, hard-wearing grain for denim and travel. The buckle is permabrass, a warm gold tone with a brushed finish rather than a gleam.
On the waist the width gives the belt presence without dominating a casual outfit, and the Box side looks particularly good against flannel and wool. The Togo side takes knocks without complaint; I have rolled this strap into a carry-on more than once and it came out flat and unmarked. Because the colour never changes, it reads as one plain dark strap from across a desk, and only up close do you see the difference in surface.
Honest notes: polished Box will collect fine scratches with time, and the engraved script needs an occasional brush to stay crisp. On the sizing front, the strap is offered in waist sizes from 80 to 115 cm, measured at the waist rather than end to end, so you order the size you actually wear.
