A single buckle can decide a sandal, and here it is a shiny black PVD-plated piece mounted on black Epsom calfskin. Because both are dark, the hardware disappears into the strap, and the effect is a plain black line across the foot rather than a metal detail you notice from across a room.
Epsom is the practical choice for a strap that gets adjusted constantly: the embossed grain is scratch-resistant and stiff enough to keep its shape instead of stretching out of true over a season. Sole height is 0.5 inch on a black rubber base, and the black calfskin insole sits directly on top of it.
Black lambskin lines the strap, so the sandal is dark inside and out and keeps looking sharp even after a long day on your feet. Sizing covers 40 to 46, and the strap adjusts across a wide range, which is useful on flights when feet swell.
The trade-off is that the PVD finish is glossy, so it shows smudges and fine scratches under strong light, and the all-black build soaks up heat in direct sun. A wipe before and after wear handles the first; nothing handles the second except shade. To be fair to the sandal, everything else has held up well. The Epsom strap has not stretched through a summer of daily adjustment, the lambskin lining has kept its colour, and the sole has worn evenly with plenty of grip left on wet stone.
