I packed the etoupe Chypre as a second pair on a two-week holiday and ended up wearing almost nothing else. A grey-brown neutral that disappears against stone, sand and city pavement turns out to be the most useful thing in a suitcase full of colour.
The Epsom calfskin gives the strap its pressed grain and crisp structure, while the lining underneath is etoupe goatskin, continuing the grey-brown shade inside the shoe. The sole is the familiar anatomical rubber with a black outsole and black calfskin insole, the heel is a half inch, and sizes run 36 to 41.
On the ground it behaves exactly as a travel sandal should: at home on gravel, stone steps and the polished floors of a hotel lobby, comfortable for a full day of walking, and neutral enough that a change of clothes never calls for a change of shoes. The goatskin lining sat smoothly against bare feet in the heat.
Because the tone sits between grey and brown, it flatters both warm and cool palettes – denim and olive on one side, greys and creams on the other. The black sole stops it looking washed out, which is the usual risk with mid-tone neutrals on a flat shoe.
What to expect over time: etoupe is a lighter colour, so it will pick up a gentle patina around the buckle and insole, and Epsom’s pressed grain can hold dust in its texture until wiped. Neither is a problem – just treat the sandal the way you would any light leather and it stays presentable for years.
