Gris Nuage is the softest grey in this range, light enough to read almost silver on overcast days and warming to dove in evening light. On a calfskin and suede upper it produces a pair that steps back from every outfit, which is the highest compliment I can pay a shoe worn four days a week.
The white rubber sole stands four centimetres, with a white insert at the front and a grey one at the back, the subtlest colour break in the whole Bouncing line. Grey lamb’s skin lines the insole and interior walls, a white fabric ribbon finishes the heel, and the pair is made in Italy in men’s sizes 40 to 46.
In practical terms, this is the sneaker I choose when I cannot predict the day: weddings it survives, airports it likes, and the grey absorbs whatever colour the trousers introduce. Calf and suede wire into a low-key texture that never looks busy. The white sole brightens the whole shoe from below; on rainy days that contrast is the only cheerful thing in a grey street, and it keeps the pair looking cared for even when I have not touched it in a fortnight.
One trade-off to name: light grey suede marks. Rain spots dry as rings if you let them set, and grey shows the darker shading of handling before any coloured shoe would. Mine gets brushed after wet walks and has stayed uniform, but a pair left damp in a bag would not.
