Chocolate is the brown that does the job of black without the funeral. On Togo it looks like a well-worn leather sofa in the best possible sense – deep, matte, and comfortable with tweed in winter and linen in July. Silver hardware lands on it as a cool punctuation mark rather than a contrast, and the pale stitching keeps the dark surface from going flat.
This is the bag I would pack for a long weekend without having to think about it. Inside goes a change of shirt folded flat, a toiletry pouch, a bag of chargers, a book, and the small things in the inner pocket; the 35 by 25 by 18 cm frame is the reason a bag this size genuinely works as a one-bag trip.
Trade-off first: chocolate Togo shows body oil on the handles faster than lighter colours do, and the dark brown can go glossy there over time. It is not damage, but it is visible. A wipe at the end of each week keeps both handles even, and if you would rather not think about it, a darker colour like this is still far kinder than a pale one.
Longer term, expect the shade to deepen slightly in sunlight and lighten at the folded corners. Brown leathers age the most gracefully of anything I own, and this one is the reason that reputation exists.
It is, quietly, the safest brown bag I can recommend to someone who has never bought one before.
