Chai is tea with milk in leather form: the warmest beige in the toile family, and the one that flatters camel, rust and brown best.
The Toile H 25, woven canvas trimmed in swift calfskin, silver hardware. It holds wallet, phone, keys, lipstick, compact and a small notebook, and the canvas keeps its structure on days the leather trim wants to relax. On cold mornings the canvas holds its composure while the swift warms up in the hand.
In use it is the autumn toile: it sits well against wool, warms up charcoal, and makes winter white look intentional. The swift handles darken gradually with handling, which gives the bag a patina the lighter colorways cannot show. I have carried it through two Novembers, and the change has been gradual and graceful.
Honest notes: two pale surfaces age at different speeds. The canvas corners are the first tell of honest use, and I would rather have that than a bag boxed away; still, coffee, ink and wet wool all write on Chai and are hard to argue with. Blot immediately, and store it away from direct sun. Mine gets a brush-down and a light balm on the trim twice a year, which keeps the two materials aging in step rather than apart.
Worn with a camel coat and brown boots it looks like November done right. It is the toile 25 for people whose neutral is warm, not grey.
