The same camel leather as its gold-hardware sibling, but the palladium finish pulls the whole bag a notch cooler. I noticed it first on a Monday morning: the Hac 40 in 37 Gold with silver metal reads more like luggage than like a handbag, which is exactly what I want when I walk into an office carrying a 40 by 30 by 21 cm holdall full of work.
Inside went a laptop, a charger pouch, a folded rain jacket and a bag of gym clothes, with the depth of 21 cm keeping everything from stacking on top of itself. Togo’s pebbled surface means I stop worrying about the bag brushing turnstiles and boot scuffs. The grain is also forgiving in a way smooth leathers are not, so the bag keeps looking new between wipes with a dry cloth.
The silver hardware matches the cooler register of the camel tone here; against a grey suit it looks deliberate, and with denim it looks like a weekend bag that grew up. The sangles, strap ends and clochette are all easy to handle, and the handle drop suits a wrist carry for short distances.
Honest note: if you wear mostly gold jewellery and warm brown shoes, this combination can feel mismatched, and palladium shows its fine hairline scratches less than gold but shows dents on the feet more clearly. For a first HAC, I still lean toward this version. It travels harder and complains less.
