There is a particular red that belongs to winter – not festive, not bright, but deep and settled – and Rouge Sellier is exactly that red. In Togo its pebbled surface gives the colour a fabric-like softness, the way velvet absorbs light, and on silver hardware the whole bag reads cool and slightly severe, which is why I like it against grey.
The Kelly 28 format is 28 by 22 by 10 centimetres of purposeful space: a compact wallet, phone, sunglasses, keys, a lipstick and a small pouch for chargers. It carries by the top handle through a doorway, and the removable strap runs over a heavy coat when I am walking to dinner in February, snow at the edges of the pavement.
Daily wear has been reassuring. The grain hides knocks, the colour does not scuff pale at the corners, and rain has left nothing behind after a wipe. Togo softens naturally at the top edge over the first months, which I find charming rather than sloppy – it is the leather telling you it has been used.
Where it needs attention: the interior is light, so a leaky pen would be noticeable, and summer whites make the red look heavier by contrast. I pair it with charcoal, camel and ivory rather than brights.
A deep red shoulder bag is among the most useful things in a wardrobe, and this one is mine for half the year.
