Shiny alligator announces itself differently from every other leather here: not with color but with architecture. The square scales of the flap catch light in strict, orthogonal tiles, so the Kelly 25 in Noir alligator looks less like a bag and more like a small obsidian building with a gold door, which, in an evening context, is exactly the point.
In the hand it is unexpectedly soft; the finish is glossy but the skin beneath has give, and the scales flex along the gussets instead of cracking the way skeptics expect. Mine has handled two seasons of dinners without a single lifted edge, which I attribute to consistent care as much as to the skin itself.
Capacity follows the 25 x 17 x 7 cm law: phone, cardholder, keys, lipstick. The bag sits on the table like a minimalist sculpture while dinner happens around it, and the gold hardware adds the only warmth on an otherwise cool composition.
What you should know honestly: glossy black exotic shows handling. The natural oils of your fingers leave a haze on the scales, and dry indoor air is its least favorite climate. A soft cloth after each outing and regular conditioning keep it pristine, but pristine is the expectation you are choosing, and you will have to keep choosing it. What you get for that attention is a bag against which everything else in the room is merely decorative.
