U5 Rose Lipstick is not red and not pink; it is the colour a satin lipstick leaves on a glass, and on Epsom’s embossed calfskin it arrives saturated and glossy without being loud. The Kelly Mini 2 in this tone is what I bring out when a black dress needs one living element, and it has not let me down yet.
Silver hardware pulls the shade cooler and more modern; gold would have made it sweeter than the name suggests. At 19 x 12 x 5.5 cm, the bag is a dinner companion — phone, card case, keys, lipstick (the actual lipstick, of course, in the zip pocket) — and the strap folds inside when I want it in hand. Epsom holds the dye even and flat, so there is no variation from panel to panel, which gives the colour its graphic confidence.
Wear it with black, navy, charcoal and denim; avoid pairing it with other pinks, where it loses its nerve. In winter it looks like a rose against dark wool, and in summer it fights the flowers and wins.
Honest note on a colour this saturated: bright Epsom shows edge wear at the corners more than dark neutrals do, because the surface lightens where it rubs. It takes years, and a colour-neutral balm keeps the edges deep. Also, this is a bag people notice and comment on — if you prefer anonymity in your accessories, choose differently. If you like your bag to serve as the punctuation of an outfit, this is full stop, in red.
