Bordeaux on alligator is the most old-world combination in this whole family — a wine-dark red with gold hardware, scales glazed like the skin of a bottle of good right-bank claret. I first carried this Kelly Mini 2 to a long lunch that turned into dinner, and it moved from daylight to candlelight without missing a step. In sun it is deep garnet; by evening it reads near-black with a red heart.
Mississippi alligator gives the surface its architecture: broad, polished tiles across the flap and smaller, tighter scales down the sides, each one edged with a fine ridge that catches candlelight. Gold hardware is the only hardware for this colour; the warm metal and the wine red belong to the same century. The 19 x 12 x 5.5 cm body takes phone, card holder, keys and a lipstick, and the strap hangs long enough for crossbody over a winter coat.
Pace of use: this is a bag for occasions, not errands — not because it is fragile, but because it deserves the room. The turn-lock and sanglé straps operate with a heavy, satisfying precision, and the clochette hangs like a small bell over the flap.
The honest part: reptile leather needs conditioning twice a year, kept away from heat, or scales along the flap edge will dry and lift. Bordeaux alligator also shows its best face in low light, so budget your moments accordingly — mine has been to more dinners than day trips. Looked after, it will outlive the evening dresses it is carried with.
