Who buys a white bag? People who have finally stopped negotiating with their own closet — and, in this case, people who want matte alligator at its most graphic. Craie is chalk: a cool, clean off-white with a slight grey undertone, and on alligator it looks like carved plaster. The scales give the colour a texture plain white leather never has, and at just under eight inches wide the bag stays a small white statement rather than a large white risk.
Against Craie, silver reads clinical in the best way. The turn-lock, the padlock and the clochette hang like surgical steel against the pale scales — no warmth, no softness, just contrast that makes both materials look sharper. The studs at the base are the most practical detail on the bag: white leather and dirty café floors should never meet directly.
Inside, the 16 cm of height takes a phone, cards and a lip balm standing up, which is all a mini needs to carry. Mine does evenings, weddings and long lunches, and the discipline of carrying almost nothing has become a small pleasure rather than a limitation.
Two honest points, both about Craie. First, this is a finish that cannot be polished: on glossy leather a light mark can often be buffed away, but on matte alligator you either live with it or have the surface professionally redone. Second, white records everything — new denim, dark coats, even newsprint — so keep it in its dust bag, never on open display, and do not wear it with freshly dyed anything. Handled that way, it stays startlingly clean.
