Mauve Pale in Epsom is a different animal from the same tone in alligator: where the matte exotic reads as texture, the pressed calf makes this dusty, grey-tinged pink look clean and paper-flat, like a swatch from a paint deck. It is a quiet colour that turns surprisingly versatile, and I have worn it with denim, with cream and with black, and it refused to look wrong with any of them.
Silver hardware keeps the mauve cool and modern, and the 19cm frame keeps the whole bag precise, with no creasing across the pale surface and nothing to distract from the colour. Phone, cardholder, keys and lipstick fit with the usual calm, and the bag never bulges.
In terms of wear, Epsom is the reason I would recommend a pale colour to a cautious buyer: the surface wipes clean, resists scuffing, and keeps its even tone far longer than softer leathers in a similar shade.
My one reservation is character. This bag is so well behaved that it can feel more like a tool than a companion, and if you want leather that develops marks and memories, look at Box or chèvre instead. If you want a pale bag that simply stays impeccable, this is how to get one.
Kept in its dust bag and wiped after heavy days, it has stayed the quietest workhorse in my rotation, and the colour keeps surprising me with how much it suits. Try it once with chocolate brown and you will see it.
