Navy canvas with black leather trim is the least fussy combination in the 36: dark enough for work, soft enough for a weekend, and completely indifferent to the seasons. This is the Garden Party the way a duffel bag is a duffel bag. Nothing to explain, everything to carry.
At thirty-six centimeters wide it takes a 13-inch laptop, a folder of documents and a packed lunch without any of them crushing the others, and the canvas body keeps the weight honest on the shoulder. Black Negonda handles and edging take the daily wear; the silver snap at the top is the only shine on the whole bag.
What rides in mine on a Friday: the laptop, a charger, a cardigan for office air conditioning, a water bottle, keys and the paperback I never finish. The interior pocket holds a transit card, and because the top is open, the bag works as a desk drawer that I can carry from meeting to meeting. It is also the bag I hand to my partner at a market gate, because dark canvas does not mind who carries it.
Honest notes. The dark two-tone reads as one color in most light, so it will not be the bag people comment on, which some find restful and others find dull. The canvas softens at the corners as it ages, and a full load over one shoulder gets tiring faster than you expect. Sized for real life rather than for pictures.
