Forest greens read almost black until the light gets into them, and Vert Cypres does exactly that: sober in a meeting, unmistakably green on a terrace. The 22-centimetre body keeps the colour close to you, and silver hardware gives the dark green a cool, slightly technical edge — a good thing, because too much warmth on a deep green drifts toward Christmas. This is the version that does not.
Day to day: phone, cardholder, key pouch, and a pen for the increasingly rare paper signature. The interior pocket holds a passport, which makes this my default travel companion when I want something that does not look like luggage. The strap lies flat across the shoulder and does not twist, and the flap’s studs sit just proud of the leather in the way hand-finishing allows.
The honest note concerns green’s limits. Deep green agrees with grey, camel, denim, ivory and black — and disagrees with almost nothing else, which is close to universal. My one true complaint is dust on dark matte leather: Vert Cypres hides scuffs but shows a light haze of lint in dry weather, so I keep a cloth in the car.
It is the most quietly expensive-looking bag I own, and the one I carry without thinking. The Danse is where this green becomes a daily habit rather than an occasion, which is exactly how I wanted to wear it.
